Concrete giders with integrated distributed strain and shape monolithic sensors
As part of an R&D project at the Rzeszów University of Technology, two full-scale post tensioned girders were prepared. They were equipped with an integrated system of monolithic strain and displacement sensors, both embedded in the concrete and installed in near-to-surface grooves. The aim of the project was to design an optimal DFOS-based measurement system to be used for new and existing (ageing) prestressed concrete structures.

Results of using the DFOS monitoring system
The DFOS-based system with integrated monolithic sensors was used to control the prestressing phase and girders’ behaviour under mechanical loads. The first graph shows the precise view of all the cracks detected by the EpsilonSensor with their width estimation. The second graph shows strain profiles at the outer surface of the cable duct (yellow line) and inside the injection area (the green line), allowing for detailed strain transfer analysis. The result provided new insights into understanding the behaviour
