Strains in concrete column under laboratory conditions
The concrete columns (Ø = 300 mm, H = 1200 mm) were studied at Gdańsk University of Technology to simulate the compressive behaviour of concrete piles under load tests. The column was reinforced with IPE profiles. EpsilonSensors (ES) were embedded in the concrete, while EpsilonFlats (EF) (sensors with rectangular cross section and with no external braid) were bonded directly to the steel section. The DFOS readings were verified by a number of independent reference techniques.

Results of using the DFOS monitoring system
The strain profiles along one of the EpsilonSensor sections are shown in the figure below. Based on the raw strain data, advanced structural analysis is possible, including the study of concrete-steel interaction, detection of local events, calculation of shortenings, force, stress, curvatures and much more.
