Resistance of fiber optic sensors to alkaline environment
In our applications involving concrete structures, understanding the resistance of sensors to an alkaline environment is crucial for ensuring long-term, high-quality operation.
We placed selected sensors in a 5% NaOH (sodium hydroxide) bath for over 8 months. Measurements showed no evidence of optical signal degradation. During this period, all sensors performed strain measurements without any issues. Additionally, the EpsilonSensor was tested without its outer braid, which normally provides extra protection. Visual inspection revealed only slight discoloration of the outer braid on the EpsilonRebar, with no impact on its performance.
